In 1991, in memory of my brother Alain, who had died the previous year, I handed out my first small Christmas gifts to people living with AIDS. Abandoned by their loved ones, they were facing a season when isolation is especially hard to bear, and I wanted to bring them a bit of comfort.
At the time, AIDS was devastating hemophiliacs and transfusion recipients who were victims of the contaminated blood scandal, as well as people who had unprotected sex.

A diagnosis of HIV/AIDS was terrifying back then, because there was no effective treatment yet and death was lurking close by.
The Little Elves Foundation, founded in 2002 to amplify my individual efforts, now gives thousands of gifts every year to people living with HIV/AIDS. I like to think Alain would approve.
Today, an HIV/AIDS diagnosis is no longer necessarily a death sentence. But it remains a demanding condition that requires taking medication every day, often at a high cost, and it is still stigmatizing in many communities across Canada.
The work of the Little Elves is as relevant as ever, and I invite you to support us by making a donation (small or large!). Donate online to receive a tax receipt immediately.
Wether through Zeffy or Canadahelps, make your one-time or recurring donation, you will receive your tax receipt immediately by email.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you in advance for your renewed support for this 35th campaign.
~ Sylvain, the Great Elf
